Heartstart UK
Heartstart UK Schools Programme is an initiative co-ordinated by a partnership between NEELB, NHSCT and the
British Heart Foundation to provide an opportunity for children to learn simple emergency life support (ELS) skills.
The programme focuses on the ELS skills needed in a life-threatening emergency and is designed to provide pupils with maximum time for hand-on practice with resuscitation training manikins. The programme is designed to train staff as instructors in Emergency Life Support and backed up with relevant teaching resources and resuscitation manikins.
Over 200 schools in the NEELB are now successfully implementing the Heartstart UK programme in both primary and post-primary schools.
Heartstart Havering is affiliated to Heartstart UK which is an initiative co-ordinated by the British Heart Foundation to promote and develop Emergency Life Support (ELS) training throughout the UK.
ELS comprises the essential actions needed to maintain life in an emergency. These include:

General care of a casualty including procedures for obtaining help

Dealing with a suspected heart attack victim

Dealing with an unconscious person who is breathing |

Performing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation on a person who is not breathing

Dealing with choking
-
Dealing with serious and life threatening bleeding |
Each course lasts about 2/3 hours. There are a maximum of twenty places on each course, so they must be booked in advance to save any disappointment.
At the end of the course you will receive a certificate of attendance, Courses are free, but it costs us £15 per person,

All staff will be monitored at least every six months to ensure continuity. Extra time will be given to candidates who need clarification. |
